Once on board the boat, we set off to Gidaki on the south-eastern coast of Ithaka for a swim in the warm, clear waters of a cliff surrounded bay. We then enjoy the delights of a cruise below majestic mountains and amazing scenery through to the hidden deep bay of Vathi. We by-pass Lazaretto Island and dock in the port for coffee, visits to the two museums, a cathedral and shops where the locals have excellent hand-crafted produce.
Our adventure begins once we leave the town of Argostoli and head off to St. George’s castle. After that we visit the Robolla wine co-operative and then the main monastery of St Gerasimos.
Next, it’s off to the Drogorati cave for a little exercise and mind-blowing views and then a short bus ride readies us for a gentle stroll down the ramp into the mythical Melissani Lake and cave.
After a lovely drive over to Sami Port we board a ferry boat and cruise across to Piso Aetos port on Ithaka. We see Vathi town for museums, shopping and churches. Then, it’s up to an area just above the town for photographs of Lazaretto Island and Vathi Bay. Following that, we meander up a mountain side to the Kathara monastery for astounding views of southern Ithaka. Lunch time is enjoyed in Kioni Bay.
A scenic air-conditioned coach ride across the slopes of Mount Ainos takes us to meet Captain Makis in picturesque Agia Efimia. We cruise the strait between Kefalonia and Ithaka, keeping an eye open for the rare Monk Seals, and up around Fiskardo to the west coast before cruising slowly past Assos and Myrtos to admire the stunning natural beauty and capture the memories on our cameras.
A full day out viewing the majestic island of Kefalonia.
We begin our day in the south of the island and meander our way up the west coast from Argostoli town. Along the way we view fish farms and see the splendid view down to Myrtos bay. We drive through the isthmus and join the north east coast road to Fiscardo. Once there, we have free time to enjoy the beautiful village and harbor.
